Zoom security and steps to keep yourself secure

            During this crazy time, people have been looking for more ways to connect for various things like work, school, or just simply wanting to talk with a group of friends or family. Because of this, Zoom has quickly risen in popularity. As most people know, Zoom is a service that allows you to setup meetings and video conferences with larger groups of people. It is a very useful service, but recently, there have been some growing concerns.
            The main concern that has been going around is hackers or strangers getting into other people’s zoom meetings and spamming various vulgar phrases and slang. This has caused many companies and schools to stop using the video meeting app regarding their security. This along with calls being routed through China only adds to the concerns that people have with the app. Zoom has recently stated that they are going to be working hard on security to make it safer for people to use. Along with these new features, there are some things that you can do to keep yourself more secure.
1.) Have a password for your meeting
Putting a password on your meeting can help keep unwanted people out of our meetings by locking it behind a password that you created.
2.) Make sure Zoom is updated
The first thing you would want to do is make sure that your Zoom application is updated. You can do this clicking your profile picture on the top right and selecting “check for updates” on the drop-down menu. The app will then either tell you if it is updated or not. If not, then it will automatically start the update.
3.) Do not send your Zoom ID in a public place
Most problems arise when people put their Zoom meeting ID and password on a Facebook or Twitter post. This is simply allowing for anyone who sees this post to get access to your meeting.
4.) Use the lock down feature
Zoom allows you to lock down your meeting which does not allow anyone else to join. This can be very helpful in keeping unwanted people to join if you already have everyone you are expecting.
